Hypnotherapy for Stress

Stress is what we feel when we are under pressure, for example if we have a deadline, or an exam. A reasonable degree of stress or pressure is beneficial to us, and helps us to focus and get things done. However, a build up stress can lead to emotional and sometimes physical problems, as you struggle to cope with daily life.

Stress is subjective – what is stressful for one person may not be to another. Hypnotherapy can hep you learn to manage stress levels much more effectively, thereby improving your quality of life and well-being.

When we exercise, we put pressure and stress on our muscles and this works to improve the resistance and strength of the muscle so that it becomes stronger. Our muscles often ache or hurt at the time, but later they are improved for the exercise. However, if we put too much stress on a muscle, we will damage it. Stress does the same thing for us psychologically. During times of stress, we are often being challenged and tested, and this is often when we find new levels of competence or skill. We might become stronger because we have experienced a measured amount of stress. However, too much stress can damage us, just like the muscle.

When we begin to experience problems with coping, we know that the stress in our lives has become too much. Some common symptoms of stress include insomnia and sleep problems, eating problems, crying and low mood, irritability, tiredness, low self-esteem or lack of confidence, constant worrying, using alcohol or drugs to relax, headaches, aching muscles, stomach problems, lack of concentration, loss of sex drive, poor memory, nail biting and other nervous habits, feeling overwhelmed, and constant colds. This is not an exhaustive list, and people experience stress differently.

When we are stressed, we are not thinking clearly. In fact we are barely thinking at all. We are certainly not at our best. In order to be the best we can be, we need to move out of the stress response, and back into the intellectual part of our mind. Hypnotherapy can help you to re-evaluate ‘stress’ so that you can handle whatever life has to offer in a calm, controlled way. We help you to think more positively, and to focus on the good things in life. This in turn ensures that you remain calm and relaxed, and able to move towards your goals in a productive way.
